Nesting

These last two months have been simultaneously the slowest and fastest moving of the process so far. On one hand, we're in a huge holding pattern, expectantly waiting for the arrival of our LOA (Letter of Acceptance) from China. On the other hand, we're feverishly trying to get everything ready here at home. Put those two things together and what do you get? Some serious nesting.

Case in point, the massive remodeling going on right now on the second floor. Once it became clear that we would be getting both boys, we began work on a 2nd floor addition which adds two new bedrooms and an expanded play area.  Here's what's left of the playroom.

Right now, the plan is to move the boys into the office and move the office upstairs into one of the new bedrooms (which is offset the stairs shown below). Then, once the boys are old enough to leave the cribs, we'll figure out who is going to go where (though Andersen and Paige already have designs on how this is going to shake out).

During the course of this process, we've had several workers step through the ceiling. So, in addition to the updates upstairs, we've also had some of the downstairs being worked on as well. Alas, the upside-down umbrella from the ceiling was never meant to last.

Since the entire house was torn apart, we decided to really go crazy and also add a deck to the back porch so that the boys don't fall off the edge into the abyss that is our slab drop-off. It's the most expensive kid-proofing ever, but it will be worth it in the end.

Finally, in one of the more bizarre twists to this process, we stumbled across an antique telephone booth which we've installed in the family room. This bad boy weighs in at a short ton and nearly took out the front door when we brought it in. It really has nothing to do with the adoption, but we think its cool, so there you have it. Also to note is the empty frames which have been earmarked for the boys. Nothing says nesting like printing out placeholder inserts for the frames.

If things work out like we hope, all the updates will be done by the end of next month. In the meantime, we're hoping to receive our LOA in the next week or so which would put us on a course for August to head over to China.
