A Whirlwind Day

Today was an amazing day. After the boys were delivered this morning, we had a couple of hours to get to know them. Parker was very sad, calling out for "Mama" and "Baba". In time, we hope that those names will be reserved for Andrea and I, but for now, all we can do is do our best to console him. Xander has a very funny personality, and seemed to fit right in from the start. He loves to laugh and is very active. He's also very sweet, giving Parker several big hugs when he was sad.
At 1:00, we were rushed off to a series of appointments all over Nanchang. It was quite hot today, so we all sweat a lot while walking/driving from place to place. Along the way though, it was great to see Parker finally brighten up. Andersen discovered that he's ticklish, so it was great sport getting him to laugh out loud for the first time. Xander was a hit with everyone and managed to con one of the ladies into a slice of watermelon - one of his favorites. Still, it was a long day for him since he is used to having two naps a day. He finally gave in around 4:00 pm local time and took a two hour nap. He just woke up a few minutes ago in good spirits.
Back in the hotel, we ordered pizza and hung out with another family from Colorado that just adopted a little girl. Xander managed to sleep straight through dinner with no issues. Meanwhile, we discovered that Parker likes pizza, which was good since he wouldn't take any formula. He also found his active side, climbing everywhere with reckless abandon.
It's 7:00 now and we're all getting ready for bed; it's been an exhausting day. Parker is finally out and we're hoping that Xander is as tired as he looks. Still, there's a better than zero chance we're not getting much sleep tonight.
In the coming days, we'll have an opportunity to sort through all of the emotions we're feeling right now, but today, we just have such a sense of overwhelming gratitude for the blessings we've been given with these two boys. It truly melted the heart to watch Andersen and Paige embrace these guys with unconditional love. They were so patient and helpful today while being drug through the streets of Nanchang. It was kind of like watching them at Christmas, except multiply the excitement by 1000%. We're a family of 6 now, and everyone's so excited. We can't wait for everyone else to get to meet them.

  1. Does your older son have a shorter leg? Our daughter has one leg much shorter than the other and is also missing fingers on one of her hands. A combination of your two boys. Oddly enough they my daughter and your older son are exactly the same age too. Congratulations! You truly are the luckiest people.

  2. Hi Dee,

Yes Parker is missing his femur and a bone in his calf. His foot on that leg is also sporting just 3 toes and it kind of twists in a little. Is that like your daughters?
Xander's hand looks like he has a thumb but it's not really functional, it's more for decoration we've found. He can't use that hand at all for grasping things and his thumb doesn't seem to have any bone in it.
