We're in Nanchang!!!

We are finally here!!!! Today was a fairly uneventful day. We checked out of our hotel in Beijing and headed to the airport. The airport in Beijing made DFW look deserted even on a busy day. Once we figured out what line to get in, an airport employee saw us and said we could go to a special line since we had a baby. I think normally Paige might have been offended to be considered a baby but we were all thinking that was pretty great when we arrived at our new special line and there were only 3 families in front of us. It took a little bit to get through security since James is so creepy looking (they went through his bag several times). Our flight was delayed 2 hours so we hung out at the airport most of the day. When we got to Nanchang our very nice guide, Claire, was waiting for us. We waited on one other family whose flight was arriving a few minutes after ours who is also with our same adoption agency. They are adopting a 13 month old little girl and also have two boys at home who are 3 and 6.

On the ride to the hotel we learned that Parker has been living with a foster family. The way it works for his orphanage is that the foster families have apartments on the orphanage grounds. Each foster family has 5 or 6 kids that they foster. The foster mom drops the kids off at the orphanage each morning like day care and then returns to get them at noon for their naps. After their naps she returns them to the orphanage for the rest of the afternoon and then picks them up at 5 to take them home. Xander's orphanage does things differently. Their foster families live away from the orphanage and just bring the kids in once a month for check ups and we don't think there are any other foster kids with his family.

Our guide asked the orphanages to have the boys here at 10:00am and said to be ready by 9:30 in case they come early. They bring the boys directly to our hotel room because they usually said it is less hectic that way. Parker's orphanage is only a few minutes from our hotel!! Xander will have a 2 hour drive tomorrow to get here. Apparently the adoption will be finalized tomorrow which means we have to go to 3 different places tomorrow afternoon to do paperwork. Nothing says welcome to your new family like a day of appointments :-)

So now Andersen, Paige and James are all asleep and I'm going to try very hard to fall asleep. It's a lot like waiting for the best Christmas of your childhood multiplied by a gazillion!
